Teeth Bonding: Everything You Need To Know

With the health concerns of the world becoming broader with time, technology and innovation have come up with several novel inventions as an answer to these issues. One such great invention is what we call tooth bonding today. One of the best procedures of cosmetic dentistry, tooth bonding is used to even-up cracked, chipped, or discoloured tooth to make smile corrections. Tooth bonding is one of the best ways to get those pearly white teeth back at a lesser cost in comparison to other cosmetic dentistry methods.

But how does it work? Why should a person get teeth bonding? This article is a one-stop solution to all questions that one may have about teeth bonding.

What is Teeth Bonding?

Teeth bonding is a colour-matched resin that is applied to the top surface of the teeth in order to get rid of any irregularities. The resin sits on the top surface of the teeth with the help of a special liquid that allows the bonding agent to stick to the teeth, evening out the appearance. At one of the most prominent dental clinics, the process starts with the dentist finding the right colour of the resin to apply. The dentist then roughens up the surface of the teeth in order to apply the special liquid, followed by the resin.

With special equipment, the dentist then moulds and shapes the teeth for a perfectly even appearance, before hardening the resin with the use of UV light.

What are the Risks Involved with Teeth Bonding?

Dental bonding does not really have any risk or concerns associated with it.  Despite the resin used in teeth bonding is not as strong as your natural teeth, chipping or breaking isn’t as common in teeth bonding as it is with other cosmetic dentistry methods.

Chewing ice, gum, pen caps, or biting your fingernails are habits that you may have to say no to if you are getting dental bonding. This is because the resin does not have stain resistant properties as great as other cosmetic dentistry methods and can get stained if a person smokes or drinks a lot of coffee.

Teeth bonding does not require any special preparation to be done beforehand. However, if you have recently got root canal treatment or other dental treatments, consulting a dentist may be a great start to know whether the procedure is right for you. There are several procedures in cosmetic dentistry, but teeth bonding is perfect for covering chipped, cracked, or broken teeth in order to get an even appearance besides being a cost-effective procedure, which is what makes it desirable.
